The Texas Children’s Hospital has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Texas Attorney General’s office to launch a “detransition” clinic and to stop performing mutilating surgery on children, DOJ announced on Friday.
Under the resolution, the hospital agreed to pay over $10 million to the state in damages and civil penalties and will provide “detransitioning” care to children damaged from these surgeries.
“For the first five years, all services provided through the Detransition Clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and be free of charge to patients,” said Ken Paxton, the state’s attorney general.
The hospital also must fire and never re-hire five doctors who mutilated children. The hospital agreed never to harm children in this way again.
“The Justice Department will use every weapon at its disposal to end the destructive and discredited practice of so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ for children,” said Todd Blanche, acting U.S. attorney general. “Today’s resolution protects vulnerable children, holds providers accountable, and ensures those harmed receive the care they need.”
It’s about time at least some of the doctors and the medical facilities that aid and abet them are held accountable. We hope DOJ can secure more of these resolutions in states across the country, which will lead to protecting minors from being manipulated into permanently damaging their bodies and minds.
