Florida School District Promotes ‘Witchy Wednesday’ — Will Christians Get Equal Time?

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any more ridiculous…

Orange County Public Schools in Florida has implemented a “Witchy Wednesday” video series in high schools. Aired during mid-week morning announcements, according to Liberty Counsel (LC), students are a captive audience to “‘religious instruction’ on spells, magic, moon worship, and other witchcraft rituals.”

Naturally, Christian parents want to make sure they can opt their children out, and their children can share their religious views.

In a demand letter to the school district, LC reminded officials of students’ and parents’ rights, citing a number of Supreme Court cases. In Mahmoud v. Taylor (2025), for example, the high court ruled that parents have the right to opt their children out of homosexual indoctrination. This standard applies to Florida schools.

LC also cited Kennedy v. Bremerton School District (2022), a case that involved a high school football coach who prayed with players after games on the 50-yard line. The school district suspended him and fired him after he refused to stop. The high court ruled in the coach’s favor.

The best bet for the Orange County school district is to allow opt outs, and allow Christian students to share their beliefs.

“The First Amendment does not allow government schools to require this instruction, nor can the school deny differing viewpoints after it has opened its morning announcements forum to student expression,” said Mat Staver, LC founder and chairman.

The Supreme Court has already spoken on this issue.
