CURE: Senate Democrats Introduce Legislation to Halt Education Freedom

Last week, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and a large group of his Democrat colleagues introduced a bill demonstrating just how beholden they are to teachers’ unions.

At the expense of parents and students, the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act seeks to fully repeal the new federal tax credit bolstering school choice. The tax credit was a part of the Working Families Tax Cut Act (WFTC) passed last year, allowing individuals to get a tax credit for donating to funds that pay for K-12 private school tuition, homeschooling, and more.

Parents must be empowered to decide how and where their children are educated. This is why CURE issued a policy report, Education Choice for All Students: A Moral and National Imperative”.

The report includes background information on enrollment and funding for K-12 education and explains how a lack of competition fostered by teachers’ unions and their liberal allies has hurt students, families and communities across America.

In the last few years, as detailed in the report, there has been a push to bolster education choice at the state level. This wave was furthered by the pivotal provision included in the WFTC.

As shown by this recent action, Democrats are determined to halt this wave of freedom in education. CURE will continue to fight alongside congressional Republicans, President Trump, and many state legislators in honoring the right of parents to guide the education and upbringing of their children in an educational setting of their choice.
