Idaho Government Signs Bill to Protect Parents’ Rights — No More Secret ‘Transitions’

Governor Brad Little of Idaho just signed a bill into law that bars teachers and doctors from keeping secrets from parents about their children’s “gender” confusion.

Parents have a right to know whether their children are dealing with serious mental health issues. Under the new law, schools, health care providers, which includes mental and behavioral, must inform parents within 72 hours of a child asking for social “transitioning.”

If these mandatory reporters fail to report, they could face penalties up to $100,000.

Parents, not government bureaucrats, have the right to direct the upbringing and education of their children. From Idaho Statesman:

Sen. Ben Toews, R-Couer d’Alene, one of the sponsors of the bill, said the measure closes a loophole that was left when lawmakers in 2023 blocked puberty blockers, hormone therapies and transition-related surgeries for minors.

“This legislation upholds parental rights through transparency,” he said. “It is about protecting the most important relationships in a child’s life, and allowing parents to do their job without being kept in the dark.”

He said when a child feels “puberty-related discomfort” and asks their school or provider to help them socially transition, those institutions shouldn’t “respond by hiding this information.”

Earlier this month, the governor signed a bill that bars men from using women’s restrooms.
