Treasury and IRS Request Comments on the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship Law — Deadline December 26

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS have issued a notice (PDF) to request public comment on the federal tax credit scholarship law (I.R.C. §25F). The deadline to comment is Friday, December 26.

The Big, Beautiful Bill authorized the implementation of a new tax credit for individuals. The credit would help families in distressed and middle-income zip codes. From the IRS press release (emphasis added):

Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, individual taxpayers may claim a nonrefundable federal tax credit for cash contributions to SGOs providing scholarships for elementary and secondary education expenses. The credit allowed to any taxpayer is limited to $1,700.

The Trump administration is interested in comments from members of the public. You may comment at the government regulations site until Friday, December 26.
