Massachusetts has a shortage of foster families for children stuck in the system. Yet the state bars families with traditional religious values from fostering children, even a Catholic couple like Mike and Kitty Burke, who received extensive training and high marks from the state.
The couple believes that marriage is the union between one man and one woman. They also refuse to “affirm” a child’s gender confusion, so the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) ruled them unfit to provide a home, care, and protection to vulnerable children.
Becket Law announced last February that after DCF became the subject of a Trump administration investigation, the agency claimed that it revised its foster care policies to allow couples like Mike and Kitty Burke to adopt children, but the state is still discriminating against the couple.
The government bureaucrats at the DCF claimed they were justified in discriminating against religious families. With a straight face?
As of today, the DCF is “vigorously defending” their illegal actions. From Becket Law (emphases added):
In a federal court filing late Friday, Massachusetts argued that it was necessary to exclude those with beliefs like the Burkes’ for the good of children.
DCF is still under federal investigation.
