Is the Trump Administration Helping the Abortion Industry Expand Abortion Pill Access?

Florida and Texas filed lawsuits last year against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to restrict access to mifepristone, which kills unborn babies by starving them of nutrients.

Mifepristone is also dangerous for women.

The FDA approved a generic version of the drug. Opponents say the FDA has not thoroughly evaluated the drug since initial approval in 2000.

SBA Pro-Life America reported that the U.S. Department of Justice last Friday moved to dismiss both lawsuits. Why did the Trump administration side with the abortion industry?

“It’s a disgrace that pro-life states like Florida and Texas are having to fight the Trump-Vance administration in court to uphold their laws and that extremists like Gavin Newsom are being allowed to dictate their policy,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA president. “The Trump-Vance DOJ has clearly established a policy of siding with the abortion industry as it breaks laws, kills babies and harms women and girls.”

Pro-lifers’ concerns center around abortion drugs by mail. Women who take mifepristone or the generic version should see doctors in person immediately.

Dannenfelser added that the dismissal “is a slap in the face to red state allies, the MAHA movement, and Republicans’ deeply loyal pro-life base.”

The Center for Urban Renewal and Education and other pro-life groups wrote a letter to President Donald Trump last December thanking him for his commitment to protecting the unborn.

But these pro-lifers are also concerned about the FDA expanding access to mifepristone under “outdated regulations that allow unrestricted telehealth and mail-order prescriptions for the drug.”
