Christian teachers in the government school system in Los Angeles no longer have to affirm students’ make-believe and fantasies of being the opposite sex to complete the mandatory “LGBTQ+” cultural training certification.
Liberty Counsel (LC) announced that all teachers at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have to do is acknowledge that yes, they are aware of “non-discrimination” policies.
Those policies also should bar discrimination against Christians.
On behalf of Christian teachers in the LAUSD, LC sent a demand letter to the district. An excerpt (PDF):
Several LAUSD educators hold traditional religious beliefs regarding sexuality, marriage, and God’s design for humankind. A mandatory certification that requires affirmation of views contrary to those beliefs directly conflicts with their sincerely held religious convictions. Federal law protects employees from being compelled to choose between their employment and adherence to their faith.
LC added that granting requests for religious exemptions “would impose little, if any, burden on the District.”
The bureaucrats in the LAUSD probably thought about the optics of arguing in court that the government has a right to discriminate against Christians.
