This week, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) released a report outlining troubling findings in their ongoing investigation into the abortion drug mifepristone. The committee’s findings demonstrate a consistent lack of transparency in the operations of mifepristone manufacturers and raise critical questions about the effectiveness of their oversight.
CURE, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, and other coalition allies have been warning about the dangers of abortion pills being sent through the mail. We have called on the Trump Administration to reinstate the requirement for an in-person doctor visit before these drugs can be prescribed, a policy that had been in place for years until it was eviscerated by the pro-abortion Biden Administration.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is undertaking a safety review of mifepristone that should be completed later this year. On a parallel track, a federal judge has set an October 2026 deadline for the FDA to respond to a lawsuit by the State of Louisiana that seeks to protect their state law by stopping the practice of sending abortion drugs through the mail.
In June, CURE released an updated version of our report, “The Impact of Abortion on the Black Community,” Among many other findings, we detailed the destructive effect of mail-order abortion pills. As this situation continues to unfold, CURE will be working with pro-life advocates to safeguard the rights of pro-life states, protect women, and defend the sanctity of unborn life.
