CURE Joins Conservative Leaders in Support of S.2, The Secure America Act

CURE President Donald Eason and Marty Dannenfelser, Vice President for Government Relations and Coalitions, joined leaders in the Conservative Action Project earlier this week in sending a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans, calling on them to pass S.2, The Secure America Act.

The Secure America Act will provide a total of $69.5 billion to fully fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through September 30, 2029.

This critical legislation comes after the historic 76-day shutdown of these agencies, which finally came to a close last month. As the letter notes, “Senate Democrats, however, engaged in endless obstruction of this critical funding – deliberately causing the longest government shutdown in American history and playing politics with America’s national security.”

The legislation includes:

  • $38.4 billion for ICE, including $108.5 million specifically allocated for Homeland Security Investigations to conduct child sexual exploitation and abuse investigations;
  • $3.4 billion for the procurement and upgrades of cutting-edge border surveillance and screening technology along the southwest, northern, and maritime borders;
  • $13 billion to CBP for immigration enforcement activities and $9.5 billion for non-immigration functions; and
  • $350 million for the apprehension of criminal illegal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) noted CURE’s support of the bill in a message sent to House Members this week. After passing the Senate last week, the Secure America Act passed the House on Tuesday by a 214-212 party line vote and President Trump signed the legislation into law on Wednesday. After many months of Democrats attempting to thwart these critical agencies, CURE commends congressional Republicans and President Trump for providing necessary funding through September 30, 2029 to secure America’s borders and safeguard our nation’s homeland.
